What Netflix series has you hooked? Did you get sucked in, unable to shut it off before the next episode played? Before we even know it, it’s past midnight and 4 hours vanish down the blackhole of binge-watching.

It’s addicting, right??

By design. But, it’s harmless entertainment, right?

I suppose so.

Something to chew on…

We “earn our keep” with our workaday hours, the 40 or so we exchange each week for a salary and benefits. We earn our dreams, and just maybe, reach our fullest potential, with the investment of our “free” hours, the other 128 we have.

The payment to enjoy anything more than an ordinary, mediocre life is the sacrifice of our free hours.

Listen, I’ve got nothing against Netflix. Maybe it’s compulsively watching MSNBC or Fox News. Whatever. Not for me to judge.

Yet, I do chuckle to myself when I hear that timeworn refrain, “I just don’t have the time.”

How many of our 168 hours each week are invested in binge-watching? Or scrolling our social media feeds?

To all the super moms out there who are putting in 50 hour work weeks, cooking meals, doing laundry, taking the dog to the vet and kids to practice, helping with homework and all the rest of it, I get it. I’m married to one of the best of them. You are all amazing! I have the same respect for the hard working dads, doing their level best to maintain any semblance of so called work-life balance. I salute you, brothers!

But, don’t think for a single moment that we don’t have complete ownership of our time. We make choices. Then, we live with them.

To enjoy any sort of life that rises above the mundane grind of modern life, we’ve got to make prudent choices about how we invest those precious “free” hours.

How many of them will we forfeit to the blackhole of binge-watching, scrolling mindlessness? Or, will we step forward out of the mire of our status quo and choose to sacrifice those free hours toward something we’ve long dreamed of and desired?

You’re the boss of your time. Do what you want with it. Just keep in mind that once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

I created MidStrong to be a resource to all the hyper-busy, uber-driven, badass Moms and Dads out there who choose to invest a fraction of their precious free hours pursuing optimal health so they can kick butt in life outside the gym.

You can do this. Don’t settle. Join us.
