Tell us a little about yourself, Paula…
I moved with my parents and older sister from Worcester to Westborough when I was 6 years old and went through the
Westborough school system, graduating in 1965. I went to the University of Rhode Island and graduated as a Dental Hygienist. I have to mention that while I was in school in Westborough, my least favorite subject was phys-ed. I was on the honor society, but barely passed “gym”. I was the one who was always picked last for any team type sports! One big plus for me while in college for dental hygiene was that I didn’t have to participate in any phys-ed!
A Westborough Townie!
I am still working part time as a hygienist and have worked the majority of my career in Westborough. I brought up two wonderful children, a son and a daughter, in Westborough and now have a grandson and granddaughter going through the Westborough school system as well. I guess you might call us Townies!
Paula has always been committed to serving her community
I served on many boards and committees while living in Westborough including being the first female selectman back in 1990 followed by 9 years on the finance committee and over 20 years on the Historical Commission. Even though I now live in North Grafton, I still volunteer for library book sales in Westborough and have lately been helping at the 1717 Shoppe. I very much enjoy watching my grandchildren after school and continuing to stay active enough to keep up with them.
What brought you to ACCELERATED Strength & Balance?
A few years back, due to my age and family history of osteoporosis, my endocrinologist suggested that it would be beneficial for me start doing some exercise with weights and core strengthening. As I’ve mentioned, exercise had never been a priority, but I did want to maintain my strength and protect my skeletal and muscular health. Through a friend, I discovered ActiveRx which is now ACCELERATED Strength & Balance and I have been a regular member for over 2 years. I enjoy the small group classes with individual attention when needed. After a knee injury, I also benefited from physical therapy with our favorite, Dr. Alan Cheng.
I enjoy how much better I now feel and that I am able to continue working, playing with my grandchildren and trying new things like zip lining!
My least favorite thing in life is negative people and that is something I never find when I walk through the door at ACCELERATED Strength & Balance. Everyone here is trying to make a positive impact on their life and the lives of those around them.
Thanks, Paula! We love having you as a part of our ACCELERATED family!
