“I really liked her. She was smart, and funny, and seemed to really know her stuff. But, when she was training me, we never really discussed all the things I have with you and Julie, Paul. You know, like all the discussions we’ve had about habits and priorities, and how to make time for stuff, like getting better sleep and taking care of myself. When I was training with Gina it was all about the workout. Sure, we ‘talked’ quite a bit, but it was mostly small talk and gossip. I feel like my live coaching check-ins with you and Julie are what I love best about online training. They’re what has helped me the most.” Such was Carla’s feedback when I recently asked what she liked best about our online training model.

We introduced Carla in my previous post. In case you missed that you can find it here.

Online Personal Training vs In-person

When Julie and I are training clients in-person, we often feel that we need to concentrate on getting them the best workout we can in the limited time allotted. That model seldom leaves sufficient time for in depth discussion about other critical topics that impact the consistency and sustainability of their training. Topics such as our habits, both good and bad, the many stresses that life brings, our daily nutrition choices and sleep quality, and whatever support system we’ve built around ourselves. There’s no question that it’s those subjects that deliver the most impact to long term success.

Perhaps the best thing about online personal training, the way in which it is most impactful and possibly superior to in-person training, is the dedicated time intentionally built into the model to discuss these many lifestyle factors.

We offer multiple packages to our online clients. All of them, except our basic Strengthen package, include regularly scheduled live coaching check-ins and Julie’s Precision ProCoach Nutrition platform. The check-ins are either weekly or monthly and all of our online clients have significant one-on-one access to both of us through our app, email, or live conversation.

Engagement and internalization

We have found that the level of engagement of our online members is quite impressive. Perhaps, it’s because they feel like they’ve got a knowledgeable and caring coach in their corner. Or possibly there’s that sense of increased personal accountability that we feel when we have somebody who truly cares about our progress and is genuinely committed to our success and we just don’t want to let that person down. I believe the most powerful determinant to our online members’ continuing progress and long-term success is our ability to help them internalize the value that these changes have on every aspect of their lives. It’s wonderful to observe how once a client prioritizes their fitness and begins to get their physical health in order, how so much of the rest of their lives neatly falls into place.

Carla continued, “Since I got started with MidStrong online and working with you and Julie, I am eating better, I’ve lost 12 lbs, my sleep has improved dramatically, I feel way less stressed. I feel so much more patient with Sam and the kids. I basically feel grateful, like I have a new mindset, a kind of attitude of gratitude. It’s really amazing. I feel so fortunate that Sam convinced me to reach out to you!”
