Most of us are familiar with Winston Churchill, Britain’s wartime Prime Minister. But did you know how eccentric and cool this character was??

He is one of the most fascinating historical figures I’ve ever read about. One of his many eccentricities was that he took two baths a day, no matter what, no matter where he was. Baths not showers. Every. Damn. Day.

So what’s that got to do with fitness or nutrition? Nada. But it does speak to habits and priorities.

It’s a glorious example of our responsibility to be the boss of our own time.

There’s a humorous story of a flash visit Churchill made to France as the French armies crumbled under the onslaught of the Nazi Blitzkrieg. He heads over the Channel on a small plane to shore up the French PM and High Command. France is literally burning down around them, artillery landing nearby, German dive bombers screeching from the sky. After some discussion Winnie excuses himself to go to his room for some rest. Not 15 min later he comes storming back into the HQ in nothing but an open kimono, demanding in his abysmal French to know where his bath was and why had it not been drawn and ready for him. Bombs going off in the background. His French hosts’ mouths agape, in complete disbelief. Haha, what a kook, right!?

What’s my point?

Why go on and on about some whacko old British dude?

Well, he prioritized what was important to him. Then he conditioned everyone around him to not just respect his wishes and priorities, but to fear his wrath when they didn’t.

Imagine what our lives would be like if we were to prioritize our fitness in such a manner?

As the wartime PM, Winnie was insanely busy. Famously, he worked all the time, 8 days a week, at all hours of the day and night. But nothing, and I mean nothing, interfered with his two daily baths.

And we struggle to carve out a measly 30 minutes a day a few days a week to exercise???

Let’s be like Winnie. Clarity on what’s important to us. One PRIORITY. Teach the people around us how important it is that they too, respect that priority. Hold that time sacred. Get it done.
