Good or Bad? The Truth About Fruit

Should you eat fruit? How much is too much?

We got a few questions recently from some members.

The controversy surrounding fruit seems to stem from a preoccupation with carbs. The misconception is that because fruit is dense with fructose that it's "bad."

That's unfortunate because our position on this is that, for the vast majority of people, fruit can be a wonderful source of healthy energy and nutrients. Lotsa upside, virtually no downside.

We addressed this topic in our recent Group Workshop call.

What you need to know:

  • Fruit is categorized as any food that:

    • Develops from the flower of a plant

    • Contains seeds

    • Generally, has a sweet or tart flavor

  • Fruit contains:

    • Essential micronutrients

    • Loads of beneficial fiber

    • Vital antioxidants

  • Fruit is a terrific source of useful and fast acting carbohydrates

  • Tastes awesome and can help satisfy sweet cravings

How much is enough or optimal?

It depends on how large, active, and metabolically healthy you are.

A good rule of thumb... one serving of fruit daily is awesome for you.

Many can benefit from more.

If you're diabetic or metabolically unhealthy, you should consult with a dietitian or qualified nutritionist.
