I was twice as strong when I was half my age

One Big Idea - I was twice as strong when I was half my age - nobody cares

I hear it all the time...

(fill in the blanks)

"When I was         , I only weighed         ."

Or...

"Back in the day, I could lift         ."

Listen, nobody cares. You shouldn't either.

I've said this and written about this more times than I care to remember - "comparison is the thief of joy." Attributed to Theodore Roosevelt, it's pure wisdom.

I used to do this. I'd have a great lift and pull big weight. But, no sooner had I put the bar down than I would think to myself, "Yeah, that's great Paulie, but back in the day you used to lift twice that."

I was twice as strong when I was half my age. So, what? Nobody cares and I shouldn't either.

Why it matters: That insidious little self-deflating and self-limiting thought would erase any sense of accomplishment or joy I might have felt.

It's dumb to compare ourselves, what we have or what we've done, to others. It's just as cancerous to measure ourselves against our younger self.

We are not that person anymore. That's a good thing.

I'm pretty sure my 50-something self would want to kick the sh*t out of my punk-ass 20-something self.

So, next time you catch yourself mumbling about how awesome you used to be, remember nobody cares and you shouldn't either.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Don't rob yourself of the joy you could be enjoying right now.

And like me, you probably weren't as awesome as you remember. 😉

We are stronger than our excuses.
