Consistent People Do Less

"If you seek tranquility, do less."

The Stoic philosopher, Emperor Marcus Aurelius, wrote this note to himself 18 centuries ago in his Meditations.

Because of the hyper-frenetic world that we inhabit today, I believe we all crave more tranquility.

Tranquility, or peace of mind, is born from an intrinsic understanding of what's most important to us - what's truly essential. And then, from there, we nurture it by methodically eliminating anything that isn't.

Our most consistent members get this. They do less with intention.

By doing less, they do better. Here's Marcus in his own words...

Do what’s essential... Which brings a double satisfaction: to do less, better. Because most of what we say and do is not essential. If you can eliminate it, you’ll have more time, and more tranquillity. Ask yourself at every moment, “Is this necessary?”

"Is this necessary?" What does Marcus mean by "this?"

It could include anything and everything that we cram into our calendars, to-do lists, or future plans. We could also include all the stuff that we cram into our garages and closets.

Eliminating the non-essential allows us "more time and more tranquility."

Our most consistent members are adept at eliminating what's not essential. The best of these fortunate few are quite ruthless at it. They are definitely fitter because of it. They're also more grounded, focused, and at peace with themselves and the world around them. They are happier.

How do they achieve this enviable state of groundedness, peace of mind, and happiness.

They are very connected to their "why." They know it, cling to it, and continually keep it front of mind.

That fortifies them to be particularly judicious about what they say yes to, which allows them to put first things first. And keep that there.

These fortunate few seldom complain that they missed workouts because they "just couldn't find the time." In spite of being very busy and productive, they always have ample time for the stuff that matters.

Which is how they're so consistent.

Summed up in six words...

Do less. Do better. Know why.

At MidStrong, we help busy people consistently put food, fitness, and function first by doing less, doing better, and knowing why.

We are committed to coaching our members to discover and become the person they were meant to be. When I check in again next week, we’ll expand upon how consistent people are also committed people.

I really want to reach more people and could use your help with that. Please forward this along to your friends and relations and encourage them to subscribe to our mailing list. They can use this link to subscribe. Thanks!

Work it. Live it. Keep it.

MidStrong is for life.
