What got you here won’t get you there...

One Big Idea - What got you here won't get you there

Ben tells me, "Yeah, I kinda think I need to really cut calories even more, totally eliminate carbs, and do more cardio, maybe like 3-4 days a week on the elliptical. What do you think, Paul?"

Hmmm...

"How long have you been trying this approach, Ben?"

"Oh geez, at least ten years, off and on, ya' know. But pretty consistently for the past 6-7 months," replied Ben.

Me: "Gotcha, and how do you feel like that's working for you?"

"Well, I guess it's working ok. I mean, I'm sorta stuck at a new set point. I'm at 230 now, down about 10 lbs since I got back into it. But wanna get back down to 195. I think I just need to be more disciplined and really double down, ya' know, go all in."

Me: "Hmmm..."

BLUF: Stubbornly doubling down on the same method that hasn't been working isn't a solution, it's a mental health issue.

What got you here won't get you there.

The above exchange is a verbatim cut and paste from a recent Strategy Session with a prospective member. Ben is a busy, hard working 42 year old dad, businessman, and veteran. He genuinely wants to make progress.

But more of the same, only harder, won't produce the change Ben craves.

If you're feeling stuck or stagnant and what you've been doing doesn't seem to be working, perhaps it's time to consider a new approach?

Because, we're all familiar with that cliche about the definition of insanity, right??
