A Horror Story

Happy Halloween Friends,

I want to share a horror story that's way more terrifying than Freddie, Jason, or Chucky.

Dan was a great guy. He had a family who loved him, a nice house, and a good job. He built a life for himself that was modestly tolerable.

In his late 50's a diagnosis rocked his world. For a few weeks, he reevaluated everything. Dan knew deep in his soul that life was supposed to be more joyful, more real, more meaningful than his had been.

Dan was a striver and provider. Always busy, hard-working, totally driven. He had accomplished a lot. But he felt hollow.

He resolved to change, to focus on what matters. He did for a while but then reverted to his former ways. And felt that same sense of hollowness and persistent gnawing disappointment and dissatisfaction.

He died that way 20 years later, after five years in a memory care unit. You see, after beating his earlier diagnosis, he slid back into the old habits of his modestly tolerable life and that led to Alzheimer's in his mid-70s.

Sad. And frightening.

Dan got a wake-up call but never heeded the call. His modestly tolerable life ensnared and betrayed him.

There's a stoic philosophy that I love - we don't GET the life we deserve. We GET the worst conditions or circumstances that we will tolerate.

So, my question to you this Halloween... how modestly tolerable is your life? How much hollowness and gnawing dissatisfaction are you willing to tolerate? Will it take a world-rocking diagnosis or some other terrible loss for you to decide to focus on what matters? How much time will slip away before then?

A decisive place to begin is considering our Measure What Matters program. The deadline to register is in two days (Nov 2nd). Don't wait. We will fill the remaining 10 spots. Reply to this email to hold yours.

We don't want your story to end like Dan's. Allow us to help you rewrite the ending.

Work it. Live it. Keep it.

MidStrong is for life.
